Three Designed Objects
This is a four-legged yellow pillar made to hold the sheet cover of the whole O2 arena. As you can see here, there is only one pillar but there are actually several pillars evenly spread out in the O2 arena. I consider this as good design because it shows how expressive design can be. Sometimes, not just one piece of design interests the audience and you can see how complicated design can become.
I like this design because when I first saw it, I understood exactly what the designer’s mind was thinking. In order to make a shelter for the O2 arena, there must be a cover. Then, there has to be pillars to support this cover, ie. a sheet cover. So, the yellow pillars were built! When looking at this design, there were many clever decisions made, for example, these pillars are known for being an icon for the city, built around 23 years ago as the Millennium Dome, the four legs of each pillar were spread evenly to maintain balance to support the cover sheet, visitors can climb up over the top to enjoy view of London and of course, the yellow coloured paint to avoid visitors from bumping into it and as a caution.
